Ethicon Supply Chain and Cilag GmbH are recruiting for a Director, Global External Operations (GEO) to be based in Zug, Switzerland.

Reporting to the Ethicon Biosurgery End-to-end Supply Chain Leader, the Director of GEO will be a member of the supply chain leadership team and will lead a team that is accountable for approximately 45% of platform revenue.

They will lead and develop a team of 11 Managers and Sr. Managers to deliver benchmark value through improved quality, customer service and responsiveness in order to reduce supply chain total cost and to increase profitability. They deploy dedicated continuous improvement specialists to help external partners drive process improvements and a lean culture.

The GEO organization scope includes Ethicon Biosurgery and Wound Closure and Healing platforms and is responsible for strategic partnerships and external manufacturers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and handle all aspects of External Operations for a subset of +20 suppliers including some commercial activities (negotiations, supply agreements), capability assessments, supply chain strategy, product quality, cost control and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead Strategic partners to develop and strengthen Ethicon’s relationships and take advantage of efficiency, cost improvement and product development opportunities. Develop and foster relationships with the external partners at the executive level.
  • Develop long term strategies that ensure year over year efficiency and capability improvements and enables the success the strategic plan.
  • Conduct regular business reviews with and review capacity analyses of external partners and initiate corrective action plans as required.
  • Lead internal cross functional team to drive excellence in external partners interactions.
  • Develop and execute supply agreements that meet On time In Full (OTIF) and flawless order requirements with minimized inventory investment.
  • Coordinate Technical and Quality groups to deploy engineering support with our partners to understand design issues, improve quality, reliability and overall performance.
  • Act as virtual Plant leader for the internal teams. Inspire change and cultural transformation both internally and externally.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in Science, Engineering, Business or Supply chain subject areas required. Post-graduate degree preferred.
Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • 12 - 15 years meaningful experience; with at least 6 years in a people leadership roles.
  • Medical Device or Pharmaceutical experience required; Biologics and combinations products are nice to have.
  • Experience in External facing roles like Supplier relationship management and background contracts and supplier agreements.
  • Ability to lead and influence others internally and externally.
  • Ability to be effective in a global and somewhat ambiguous environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely across all levels of the company and across the global supply chain.
  • Track record of developing talent.
Preferred:
  • Strong background and experience in sophisticated program management.
  • Understanding of process excellence tool set (lean, six sigma) and of manufacturing systems and processes.
Other:
  • Fluent in English required, Spanish prefered.
  • 10-15% international travel.
